KESWICK MILITARY MUSEUM

Our destination is the South Australian Military Museum located at Keswick Barracks, near the city end of Anzac Highway.

We had arranged a 90 minute guided tour of the museum; there is a small charge for this. There is easy parking at the Museum.

Outside the Museum stand various big guns and Army equipment. Inside, the Museum has a very interesting collection of medals, uniforms, weapons, photographs and other War paraphernalia.

There are also battleground layouts, ...

... the local Cheer Up Hut piano, and ‘Cedric’ the chestnut horse.

After the tour we enjoyed a 3-course lunch in the adjacent Mess.

Our group had some reservations about this visit. The Museum certainly contains a fascinating collection of War memorabilia, and our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgable. However, lack of seating meant that we were standing for the duration of the tour, and some of our older members found this hard. The following meal was well prepared and good value, but was rushed, with the staff wanting to clear up and be away. We would have appreciated a more leisurely repast!
