STIRLING’S SECRETS

Stirling is a lovely town in the Adelaide Hills, but there is always more to discover!  We begin at the Crafers exit, and follow down Ayers Hill Road, turning right at beautiful Laurel Road.

•1  We drive slowly down Laurel Road, in my view, one of the prettiest parts of Stirling.

•2  Then out to Avenue Road, and up Spencer Street to Sunset Rock Lookout, just near the Uniting Church where there is parking. Time for a walkabout : the view is great, there are a number of interesting plaques on the rocks, and it is an interesting walk down to what looks like a small quarry just below.

•3  We now follow around Longwood Road/Heathfield Road/Cricklewood Road, and crossing the railway line, turn left into Madurta Road. A grand mansion appears on the right: Madurta House. It is in fact new, and I understand it belongs to Rob Girard.

•4  We drive around the loop and return to Milan Terrace, leading to Mabel Street. Following down Mabel Street we reach the railway embankment, and there is a parking area just around the corner into Woorabinda Drive. There is a short easy walk around the lake, good for bird watching. There are no toilet facilities here.

The Lake makes a good place for a group photo!

Leaving the lake, we stop at Stirling’s new Coventry Library (corner Mount Barker Road and Merrion Tce) for a toilet stop and a brief look around. Parking is sometimes difficult here. We now take the bus and return to the Freeway, after a time leaving by the Hahndorf exit. The Old Mill is on the left as we enter the township, and there is ample parking behind.

A sumptuous buffet lunch concludes our outing, and we return home.
