WARRAWONG WILDLIFE

From the South Eastern Freeway we turn off at Stirling, and follow Longwood Road to Stock Road and thus to the Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary on the left. There is ample parking.

We allowed a little extra time to have Devonshire Tea/Coffee in the very pleasant café which looks out on a feeding station for the local parrot population. (We booked this in advance.)

Less mobile group members can stay here for leisurely conversation or explore the attractive gift shop nearby.

From the café, we follow down to explore the grounds. There is no charge to wander the grounds, but there are paid guided tours. Late afternoon or evening is a better time to see the wildlife, but we may well find one of the resident kangaroos ...

A large pool is home to a family of turtles. Sometimes the local platypus can be seen too.

Further down is a wonderful dense forest ... and you may find the ruins of a historic old settler’s cottage.

After our exploration we leave the sanctuary and proceed back to the Freeway and out to the Hahndorf Mill for a delicious buffet lunch.

After lunch we return to Adelaide, calling in at the Fruit and Vegetable Market on the north side of the Hahndorf access road. A good day!
