INTRODUCTION
It is not infrequently that the subjects ‘mathematics’ and ‘art’ overlap. It is our intention here to investigate some of these occurrences. So this site might easily have been given the title ‘The Mathematics of Art’ or ‘Mathematics and Art’ or some such.

The starting point for each of these chapters is a Java applet. I have some small knowledge of programming, but these applets are written by ‘real’ programmers. I gratefully acknowledge their work and ownership, and details of each appear in the relevant chapter. I wish to particularly thank Bob Allanson and Bill Beaumont who have been readily forthcoming with help concerning the technicalities and writing of the Java applets. Their own work can be found on:

Bill:  http://www.bold.net.au/~willy/

As in most of my websites, the work here is interactive: I would like you, the reader, to investigate and explore these situations, perhaps with a little guidance. But above all I hope you enjoy these encounters. I have always thought of mathematics as ‘fun’, but with this beautiful art added, hopefully you will find it irresistable!

A coloured entry beginning wth • means it is over to you. A following coloured entry beginning with # provides some answers.
