In 2012, a change in personal circumstances meant that my wife and I had a new freedom to travel. So I suggested to her that, as a project, I photograph all the cathedrals in Australia, making a detailed photographic website of each. Over the next seven years this came to pass, and it was great fun. We visited all parts of the country, and many towns that we would never have otherwise visited. The photographs, together with accompanying text, have appeared in publicly accessible websites under the link:

In succeeding years we have travelled further afield to New Zealand, Europe, Wales and England – all the time photographing cathedrals.

Many people who knew me asked if I planned to publish the results in book form. I was reluctant to do this. How does one compress many thousands of cathedral photos into a booK? However, in 2023 I published the book Highlights of English Cathedrals. The book has been well received, and this has encouraged me to publish a successor, which is this book.

People with a knowledge of cathedrals will notice several ‘extras’ here. Thus Christ Church Old Cathedral in St Arnaud was a cathedral 1926 –1977. SS Peter and Paul’s Old Cathedral in Goulburn was a cathedral 1869–1969. St Mary’s in Auckland was a cathedral 1897–1973. And Old St Paul’s in Wellington was the pro-cathedral of the Anglican Diocese of Wellington 1866–1964. All worth including here!

Review by Fay Torr ... (both books)

* * * * *

My first glimpses of these books are nothing short of admiration, and each is a masterpiece for Paul Scott! His actual work involves taking colour photographs, and adding text beneath or near the photographs.”

Paul Scott is to be congratulated on both books! They are both extremely well done and presented.

Review by Jeremy and Wendy

* * * * *

The biggest surprise is discovering that there are so many cathedrals in Australia and New Zealand.

Thank you Paul for taking us on a fascinating journey and enlightening us with your excellent explanations and photography. Wendy's favourite will always be St. David's in Hobart, having been a large part of her life for many years.
