B9. TREE BRANCHES

Trees are beautiful in any season, but perhaps less appreciated in winter. Yet it is at this time of year that their glorious fractal structure becomes apparent. The main trunk subdivides with branches sprouting out to the sides. These branches subdivide in their turn – not in exact replication of the trunk, but in an aesthetically pleasing way which preserves the characteristics of the particular tree. As here, a tree will demonstrate several iterations of the fractal.
