BRITISH HOTEL
58 Finniss Street

The imposing British Hotel building dates from 1883. The hotel retains its old brewery windows (exterior, interior). The bar has a trapdoor to the cellar (which has a story of its own to tell!) and posters of the hotel’s early brewery connections. The original licence is on display, clearly showing the year 1837. Upstairs on a marble mantlepiece there is an engraved name, said to be that of a ghost which haunts the hotel.
