Just west of the Institute Building on Nile Street stands a dignified building that housed the Waterworks until 1914. After world War II it passed to the control of the Harbour Board. In recent times the building was part of the Customs complex.

These old buildings were largely utilitarian, but featured a certain elegance, illustrated here by the surround to the front entry.
