28A. ROW OF SHOPS
St Vincent Street, diagonally opposite from Town Hall

Shops

On St Vincent Street, diagonally across from the Town Hall, there is a row of rather dilapidated old shops. They are of interest because of the large historic posters displayed. James Brothers Store appears to have been a sweet shop specializing in humbugs. There is a sign about Edward and his Barber Shop, along with walter who may (or may not!) have been a customer. A further pair of signs mention Shaws Men’s Wear, and Kirby the Chemist (certainly trading in 1909). There is also an old gas lamp.
