3. FRACTAL RIVER

It is difficult to give a precise definition of a fractal, but any definition involves the idea of self-similarity: smaller scaled versions of the total figure appearing within the figure. This doesn’t occur exactly in nature, but the idea is illustrated in this satellite image of the Amazon River. Each tributary has branching features similar to the total river system.
