51. MATHEMATICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Wolfach is a delightful little village in the Black Forest, Germany. Further up the valley lies Oberwolfach, a small isolated group of houses and this Mathematics Research Institute (Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut). Each Sunday throughout the year mathematicians from all over the world having a common interest in some small specialized research area of mathematics gather at the Institute. The venue provides full accommodation, and for the next week the mathematicians share their company and knowledge in seminars, over meals, in quiet times, and even during the strenuous Wednesday hike to a distant inn. The following Saturday everyone packs up and returns to their home with renewed enthusiasm and stimulated by the interchange of ideas, to explore and publish new results. A truly inspirational week!
