53. STARRY SKY

Our universe is awash with large numbers. Romanticists of old asked about the number of drops in the oceans, or the number of grains of sand on the shore. We might ask how many observable stars there are in the heavens (the observable number was around 70 sextillion in 2003!), or how many we miught see on a starry night (maybe 6000). In this computer age we are familiar with Megabytes (106 bytes), Gigabytes (109 bytes), and now Terrabytes (1012 bytes), but for mst of us these are just names. In 1938 the term googol was coined to stand for the number 10100 – a very large number!
