The Pentagon is the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, located in Arlington, Virginia. It must be the worlds most famous polygon!
Mathematically, the regular pentagon is the third member of an infinite sequence of polygons. It has special interest in that the ratio of a diagonal to a side length is the golden ratio (Photo #41).
We notice that the Pentagon building is made up of two regular pentagons, one inside the other. If we draw lines through corresponding vertices, what can you say about these lines? Would this remain true if one of the polygons was translated a little? rotated? (This might ruin the war effort!)
