The true bearing of a point P from point O is the clockwise directed angle that OP makes with the North ray at O. So, point P might have true bearing 120°T from O.

As an example of how ships make use of lighthouses, consider the following. A ship is travelling at night making for a port X. The captain knows there is a lighthouse 50 km from the port on a bearing 035°T. He also estimates that the lighthouse is 30 km from the ship on a bearing of 305°T. Make a careful scale drawing and estimate the distance and bearing of the port X from the ship.   Check.
