NameRobert BROWN
Misc. Notes
Arrived in SA from London in barque 'Derwent' in 1849. The SA Government Directory of 1955 states that Robert Brown was the owner of Section 1032 near Normanville. A letter to relatives in England speaks of 'Uncle Brown being very busy tending the vines'. This confirms the unwritten family story that wine was made at the Mount Pleasant farm. In 1863 the brown's only child, Sarah Elizabeth, died at the age of 21 years A slate vault with her name engraved on it at the old Wesleyan cemetery at Normanville marks her resting place.
