“George CANT, a local, who after trying his own hand at throwing the boomerang, forgot to duck when the object returned, striking him in the centre of his forehead. A lump developed on the spot, and in later years it became cancerous, eventually causing his death.” [“The Second Valley” – Ron Blum p106. May refer to George G. CANT?]
'George Cant's omnibus, 'The Royal Admiral' left Adelaide daily at 11 a.m. for Port Adelaide, the fare being 1/6 each way. The advertisement continues: 'George Cant will have a waiting room at the top of his yard where ladies may wait until the start, in view of the long talked of inconvenience of loitering about the streets.' In 1854 a new omnibus 'The Express' is described as 'light in construction but strong as a ship of the line, elegant in appearance with a moveable glazed window, a ventilator the whole length of the roof, and an inside lamp'! Another omnibus called 'The Eclipse' left the Clarendon Hotel, and a glowing advertisement by George Cant 'begs to inform his friends and the public generally that his 'Royal Admiral Bus' is to make two trips a day, and his splendid new bus 'The Express', complete with every convenience will also leave his yard at the Port twice daily.'
