In September 1848, she writes: 'early in the month we sailed for south Australia in the 'Babboo' [sic] , Captain Barter having charge. Had a pleasant voyage, arriving on the 21st Dec 1848. Her father bought a house in Hanson St, City. Four brothers and sisters came out at the same time, leaving behind an eldest brother Thomas, and Annie. They followed in a few years, but have all passed away, but my brother Griffen in Melbourne and myself. On June 19th 1853 I was married to Joseph Allen. Eight children died in infancy – eight lived! The children living are Mrs T. V. Dewhirst, Semaphore, Mrs C. J. Cribb, Eden Hills, (I have my car serviced at Cribb's garage which is closing down today!), Eben Allen, West Australia, Norm Allen, W.A., and Miss A. Allen, Walkerville.'
