In 1891 census Helen was a Spirit Merchant self employed aged 49 widowed, living at 658 Govan Road Govan, with a son George aged 26 a draughtsman and Hugh aged 16 an apprentice draughtsman, Louis aged 11 Scholar, Helen aged 8 scholar, and a general servant Annabelle McDonald aged 22.
In the 1901 census Helen was living at 22 Water Row Govan, she was a widow recorded as a retired Wine Spirit Merchant aged 61.
