[Note 2014: This track no longer exits to Ridge Road.]
Near the Giles Cottage sign, there is a back track which follows the creek up past the ruin.
These old ruins have an air of melancholy ...

The back track turns out to be a properly formed fire track, although a little overgrown along the valley floor. This is probably snake country, but I didn’t see any. I would have called this ‘Pretty Valley’ but I later discovered it has been already named ‘Magic Valley’. I can live with that!

The track soon crosses the creek and climbs up along the valley: a long, steep and relentless climb.
A good time to enjoy a thistle stop along the way ...

At the top of the valley the track turns back on itself and follows a more gentle gully, leading unexpectedly to pleasant meadow land. This is officially designated as Moule’s Reserve, but notice the sign – perhaps this is also Magic Valley?

I found a picturesque fennell plant along the way – this must be a fractal!

The path emerges at the corner of Ridge Rd and Woods Hill Rd, just below the kindergarten.
A most unprepossessing exit!

Continue left on Woods Rd past the Ashton Cold Stores, and take the left turn back to the car.
