HORSNELL GULLY (GILES PARK)

WOODS HILL RD – HEYSEN TRAIL – GILES RUIN

GILES >
  VALLEY TRAIL

Park the car on Woods Hill Road where the Heysen Trail enters the Giles Conservation Park.  The track here is officially known as the Woods Hill Ridge Walk. The bush track is lined with wild flowers in spring ...

... and soon meets a fire track, descending to the foot of a pylon. There are nice views along here across to the orchards on Old Norton Summit Rd. Then there is a short spur road to the Quarry (no entry and unfriendly signs!). Take the sharp left turn and the track descends easily

to the bottom of a pretty valley. These valleys in the early morning are a wonder to behold!

At the bottom there are the ruins of one of the Giles’ Cottages, once accessible via the nearby (now prohibited entry) Quarry valley road. The three ruins around here are known as the ‘Reedbeds Ruins’.

There is an information sign by the track with interesting details about early pioneers Horsnell and Giles.
