Representations of the Madonna and Child have a long history. The earliest such representation may be the wall painting in the Catacomb of Priscilla, Rome, in which the seated Madonna suckles the Child, who turns his head to gaze at the spectator. It is pleasing to see here a (smaller!) sculpture of Joseph and Jesus. INDEX
This more unusual representation of the Madonna and Child was created by Peter Eugene Ball in 1999.
There are two stained glass windows in the Lesser Lady Chapel. The window at left depicts The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. The delightful window at right depicts Angels. Both windows were given in memory of Emma Walker, 1885. They were given by her daughter, but the maker unknown.
I hope you have enjoyed visiting this unusual and historic Church with me.
