61. MADONNA AND CHILD PM WP

ALadyChapelMadonnaandChildPM  BWhistlepunch2

Representations of the Madonna and Child have a long history. The earliest such representation may be the wall painting in the Catacomb of Priscilla, Rome, in which the seated Madonna suckles the Child, who turns his head to gaze at the spectator. It is pleasing to see here a (smaller!) sculpture of Joseph and Jesus.    INDEX

This more unusual representation of the Madonna and Child was created by Peter Eugene Ball in 1999.

63. LESSER LADY CHAPEL WINDOWS J&J J&J

ALadyChapelWindowLeft  BLadyChapelWindowRight

There are two stained glass windows in the Lesser Lady Chapel. The window at left depicts The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. The delightful window at right depicts Angels. Both windows were given in memory of Emma Walker, 1885. They were given by her daughter, but the maker unknown.

CONCLUSION J&J

I hope you have enjoyed visiting this unusual and historic Church with me.

Photographs for this site have been received from a whole host of photographers, and I wish to express my sincere thanks for their generosity and helpfulness in making this site possible. Accreditation for individual photos is indicated by suitable initials throughout the presentation.

The two major contributors have been ‘Jules and Jenny’ and Phil McIver. Their original photos can be sourced respectively at

https://www.flickr.com/photos/jpguffogg/albums/72157713050451378 [J&J], and

Lesser numbers of photos – but just as much appreciated! – have come from ‘Glass Angel’ [GA], Aidan McRae Thomson [AMT], David Ross [British Express BE], ‘Whistlepunch’ [WP], Simon Oldfield [SO], Wendy Harris [WH], and Clive Holliday [CH – requested]. There have also been photos taken from the Church [CS – Crooked Spire], and from Google Street Maps [Go] under license, with thanks to Matthew Jones Photography and David Sheratt.

I also express my thanks to my wife Margie who dutifully reads through all my websites and checks the typing.

I take little credit for the text which comes from a variety of different sources.

I would be glad to receive any comments, criticisms or corrections to this site. The best websites are those which contain no errors!
