I have a vivid boyhood memory of a bolt of blue fork lightning flashing down in the valley before me and splitting a tree in half. Such power! But structurally, not much different from a river system – the same inexact similarities between the whole lightning bolt and its smaller branches. A good example of a branching fractal.
