24. LOCK-UP

Making our way back towards the entry gates, we come to the old lock-up or cell block.

 

The adjacent sign tells us that these cells were built in 1886, and used for misbehaving soldiers. However in 1912 they became infamous when several 15 year old youths were jailed for three months for not attending military service on Saturday afternoons. Hard old days!
