24. TELEGRAPH STATION
Corner Coral Street and Railway Terrace

 

This stone building was completed in 1866. With the telegraph line finished, communications with Adelaide were much improved, and in 1870, the post office and telegraph office were combined in this building.

 

Later it was used as the residence of the postmaster when the post office was relocated to Ocean Street. Since 1991 it has been an art gallery and studio.
