Chalet and Lake

CHALET AND LAKE

We have a cute little (pre-booked) chalet

– a box with a U-shaped interior made up of bed/dining/ kitchen/ drying cupboard - hot water tank/bath, with a middle divider and step ladder to an upstairs sleeping area for any kids. There is a nice view out over an arm of the lake, with evening mist settling gently in the hollows of the surrounding ranges.

We do a rather steep bush walk between showers,

and then return to the chalet for tea. This is a wonderful place to get away from the world: no traffic, no noise, no television – help! There is a general store for the supply of basic needs. We are hoping for a fine day tomorrow. Later it turns out that the absence of a TV is a non-issue: there is a power blackout at 7, so we retire to bed! The power does come on again at 8:30, but we decide to stay put.

The following morning dawns with blue sky and light cloud. It has not been our best night: it was too long! Also the bed is too short: it is only a double – comfortable, but smaller than our usual. The camping ground has a very attractive location with moored launches, ducks and black swans.

There is a large species of duck here, in which one of the pair, presumably the male, is dark brown with a white head and a loud quack.

It is worth taking time to wander around the camping ground site to appreciate fully the beauty of this little inlet.

We have to travel a little further afield to see the more typical Waikaremoana Lake view, showing off the grandeur of the Panekiri Bluffs.

This is certainly a beatiful place! What marvellous sights still await us?
