Reims Cathedral is interesting in that there are two West rose windows, with a secondary smaller West Portal rose window (#2) placed directly above the West door (##5, 6). Then there are further windows in the North transept (##3,7) and South transept (##4, 8). The West Grande Rose window depicts the creation, while the rose window in the North transept depicts the story of Adam and Eve. Follow the panels in clockwise direction, starting at the 12 o’clock position, for the complete story. The South rose window is a modern replacement of the original ones. The first 13th century window was blown out during a storm in 1580, the second replacement was destroyed completely during WWII. The window shows Christ in majesty in the centre, surrounded by twelve panels of worshipping angels, then the twelve apostles in roundels in the outer ring.
