: EIGHTIETH BIRTHDAY MRS FIELDING OF GOOLWA Mrs Emma Jane Fielding of Goolwa will celebrate her 80th birthday today. She was born at the old mill house at Encounter Bay, the tower of which stands part way between the Bluff and Victor Harbour [sic]. Her earliest recollection of this locality is when it was known as the Police Point, and consisted of only one house, this being a police station. Her father was Mr William Neighbour, who settled in Encounter Bay in the early forties of last century. Mrs Fielding is able to recount stirring incidents of the old whaling days and experiences with the natives. In 1868 she was married to Mr Alfred Fielding, and after residing for a while in the encounter Bay district, they moved to Goolwa where she has lived for over 52 years. In spite of the strenuous pioneering days through which she has passed, the old lady is still able to perform her own household duties, and is in possession of all her faculties. ...
