In his book 'The Second Valley', Ron Blum gives a page of detail about a William Henry Roper – possibly the father?
'William was born in Norfolk, and came to SA in 1848 in the sailing ship 'Brightman'. He was a miller by trade, like his father who had a large water driven flour mill on the River Thames in England. While in Second Valley in 1867, rust attacked the colony's wheat crops, including William Roper's. In 1872 the crops were bad, and there was an exodus of people from Second Valley across to Yorke Peninsula. At this time William Henry bought the Second Valley Mill from the Leonard brothers. ... William married Annie Moore on 3 Mar 1854. Mr and Mrs Roper moved to Rapid Bay to take up farming.'
