Birth, Death, Marriage : DURDIN Family Tree.
“I was born at Second Valley in a small thatched cottageof my uncle, Charles Cane. My mother later took me home to Delamere, where we lived until I was 4 years old. ... I went to the Normanville school until I was 14. At 15 I started my first job earning 5/- a week. However I was not happy there and went to work for a Mr Butterworth who owned a farm at Normanville and a mill at Yankalilla.I milked 12 cows and helped with the chaff cutting, with deliveries from the mill, and with loading wattle bark on to the ships that called in to Normanville. ... We started off with 640 acres of virgin scrub [near Morgan] which we gradually cleared We built our house of split pines which were plentiful in the area. ... I married Miss Hilda Ansell in 1917. We had to enlarge the original house, and in 1923 I built a new stoone house as our family was increasing. We lived there until 1939. With the outbreak of WWII my two sone enlisted, so we left the farm and finally moved to Salisbury. [Extracts from 'Events of my life' by Albert Jesse DURDIN]
