Edgar's early life was spent in Second Valley. He later came to Hamley Bridge where he worked as a carpenter with his brother William H. Durdin. He was also studying architecture. He enlisted in WWI and was serving as a corporal when he met his death. He is buried at Harbonnaires in France. He was not married. He had a nephew who was given the same name.
