Melville HODGE, aged 47, ploughman from Fife, Scotland sailed aboard the Joseph Rowan to SA in 1854. In 1857 he married Mary MILNE, whom he met on board ship. They lived in North Rhine which at the time was noted for its copper mine. Melville got work in the mine, as well as working as a ploughman. Melville and Mary had two children, Ellen (KESNES) b. 28 Feb 1858 and David b. 18 Oct 1860. Then tragedy: Melvile died suddenly from dysentery, aged 56 years. [Four Milnes of Forfar : Jack Cross]
