Misc. Notes
Ellen was Irish, coming from the beautiful district of Doonass in County Clare, aand had arrived in SA in 1854. Her parents lived in the Irish community near St Patrick's in the city square, and for most of last century there was an Adelaide street named after them. All her life married to David MILNE, Ellen was torn by the difficulties of a mixed Protestant-Catholic marriage. Most of her children were baptised Catholic, but drifted into Methodism as they grew up. She encouraged them to remain Protestants out of love and respect for their father. In old age, when her priest rebuked her, she would become so upset she would drive him away with her mop! In 1915 she broke her hip in a home accident in Laura, and was transferred to the Home for Incurables in Adelaide where she died in 1916. [Four Milnes of Forfar : Jack Cross]
