Birth, Marriage : Margaret SCOTT (POLGLASE)
Joan grew up in Magill and Norwood before her family moved to live in St Peters. She recalls a happy life with her one sister Rhonda, although her father, 'Curly', was very strict and difficult. Joan almost lived at the St Peters Baptist Church where she was involved in Girl Guides, choir, Senior Endeavour and the dramatic society. There were cousins who visited from time to time, and the St Peters house was always open to all. Joan was an accomplished piano player, working her way up through the grades. She worked a a comptometriste for the Commonwealth Oil Refinery, and then at ETSA. During World War II she enlisted with the RAAF as a wireless telegraphist. Joan met Drew at the local tennis club. When she maried Drew, the couple were almost penniless and rented houses in Evandale and Mile End before building their Magill home. There they raised their family, and became involved in the Magill Baptist Church. They owned a beach shack out at Pine Point which became the venue for many family holidays. About 1989, after the family had left home, Joan and Drew moved to a nice place in Aldgate. At some stage they bought a comfortable beach house down at Beachport which became a favourite holidy spot for the family. Joan was a kind and generous lady, and was always a willing worker. [Joan POLGLASE (mostly!)] She died after several years of limited mobility in The Lodge nursing home.
