Misc. Notes
Robert Dodgson ('Old Roby Dodgson') Yeoman of Stoneknowe, Butterhill, Burnfoot, or Pattonside and Roanstrees Miln, commonly called Bailey Miln in the parish of Bewcastle, Manor of Nicholforest – supposed to be born at Dodgsonstown parish of Stapleton in or about 1694. He was buried as appears by the Stapleton Church register of Burials on the 13th day of May 1765 at 71 years of age – there was a Tombstone erected to his memory in the Family burial ground in Stapleton Church Yard which was repaired and painted by John Dodgson of Fieldhead, stonemason, a Descendant of the Family, by the Orders of Robert Dodgson of Roanstrees who died at Longtown in 1823 – the above named Tombstone was unfortunately lost when Stapleton Church was rebuilt in 1830. Robert Dodgson ('old Roby Dodgson') of Stoneknowe married in or about 1712 Cathrine or Catherine Nixon from Holmhead, Bewcastle (1714 Dec 2. Robert Dodgson and Katherine Nixon married. Robert Dodgson and Cathrine had Five Children – four sons and one Daughter (probably more children died in infancy as appears by an Inscription on the back of the Tombstone of Cathrine "Here lies 7 of her children") namely – John – George – Andrew – William – and Cathrine or Cathering. (The Will of Robert Dodgson – proved 8/6/1765 – mentions a son Henery; also Robert baptised 9/2/1719 and Ann daughter of Robert buried 7/3/1728 per Bewcastle Parish Registers, both being of Croft)[DODGSON FH (web)]
