John was Eldest son and Heir at Law to Robert Dodgson the First ('Old Roby Dodgson'). He died before his Father and Mother. John was born at Croft in the parish of Bewcastle on or about the year 1715 (1716.Sept.14. John son of Robert Dodgson of Burnfoot bap. [Bewcastle B.T.]) and Died as appears by the Tombstone at Stapleton November the 12th 1753 (N.B. should have been 1754) aged 39 years. The Tombstone is wrong, as it stands in the Stapleton Register of Burials "John Dodgson of Stoneknow Buried Novr. 18th 1754" The register is also corroborated by the Customary Court Books and other writings (1754. Oct.7. We find Robert Dodgson Tenant of Stoneknow, Burnfoot and Baley Miln, after the decease of his father. [Nichol Forest Manor Rolls]) – He died of consumption and there is a tradition, that at a parish or other meeting at Blackpoolgate Public House in the parish of Bewcastle he got into a quarrel and was hurt by a fall behind or upon an Oak chest or cupboard from the effects of which hurt he never recovered. He married in or about 1743 Grace or Grizel Routledge (1741. Nov. 26.
