Arthur was one of a family of thirteen. He served as a sergeant at Gallipoli, where he was wounded. After recovery, he was sent to France serving on the Somme and at Paschendale where he was wounded again. He was a quiet, friendly and popular man, still referred to by family as 'dear Uncle Arthur'. He lived to be 66 years, dying of cancer in 1953, dying two weeks after his return from a trip to Australia with his sister Lena EDWARDS to see family living there. He is buried at the Soldiers Lawn Cemetery at Hastings.
