The fact that the Koch curve is often referred to as the snowflake curve would suggest that the snowflake in nature is a real life example of a fractal.

In fact, the reality is rather different. While the basic branching structure is evident, the relative chunkiness of the ice formation means that only a very rudimentary fractal structure actually appears.
