Obituary, Henty Observer 1941 : ... Mr James Smyth, one of the earliest settlers in Yerong Creek. Two months ago Mr Smyth had an illness, and had apparently recovered, but had a relapse on Wednesday and passed away peacefully on Saturday morning. [After the 1920 sale of the farm] they left to reside in Sydney. The late Mr Smyth who had reached the age of 73, was recognized as a keen judge of land and sheep values. He married Miss Marjorie Coyle, younger daughter of Mr Coyle and the late Mrs Coyle, and sister of Mrs Hamilton and Mrs H. G. Saunders. Mr Smyth is survived by his widow and one brother, Mr J. D.
