James and Elizabeth had two sons and four daughters, the girls being good vocalists and pianists. The first four children were born in SA before the family moved, in about 1877, to Yerong Creek, where the last two girls were born. They lived a successful and happy life in comfortable surroundings. There only sense of loss must have been that their two boys had no sons to carry on Fairfield. John and James farmed with their father until he died in 1917. They sold Fairfield to Mr J. O. Cox in 1920, after the death of Elizabeth. [The Smyth Family History: Settlers of a Sunburnt Land]
The above publication also gives a list of descendents of James and Elizabeth.
