James, the youngest child of Robert and Jane, was born in Belfast in 1839. Owned property at Gould Creek. He farmed at Golden Grove until some time in 1875 or 1876 when he sold out his interest with his mother and brother Robert and left for interstate, finallt deciding on Yeong Creek, NSW in 1877. He purcahsed land there and built aresidence which still stands today. The property, called Fairfield, lay a few miles east of the present township, and comprises about 4500 acres of fairly flat country studded with trees. In 1894, a Wagga newspaper reports James shearing 7-8000 sheep. The family was highly respected in the district, and the children attended Yerong School after it opened in 1881.
