From unknown early history book: The late James Foreman arrived in Australia from Essex, England in 1838 [X] – landing at Port Adelaide. His brother George and sister Mrs Barrett traveled on the same ship. Shortly after arrival, James took up land at McLaren's Flat [= Willunga?] where he started farming. He was an expert ploughman, and in those days the farmers held ploughing matches for prizes, and in these James excelled himself. He retained his original property until his death in 1858 [X]. There was a family of three sons and one daughter.
According to The Register, Dec 1857, James died at 31 from a valvular disease of the heart. [Ted CARLIER] Death notice: SA Register 16 Dec 1857 p2/3 col A/B: On 12 December at Willunga, Age 31. For many years champion ploughman of SA. Born in Tasmania. Leaves wife and three young sons.
