Misc. Notes
Always known as Fee. After his marriage to Ivy, the couple lived on a small country property at Taradale. However, despite the birth of Merle, Marie and Lawrence, the marriage was not a success. Fee had a position as Army paymaster and lived for long periods at the Waiouru Army Camp. There is a story that he used to walk around carrying a loaded 38, guarding the money! It was there that he met Sheila (Bobby) DONALDSON. They married and moved to live in Gisborne, where Fee bought an electrical retail business in Peel Street. Fee was a people person, and a super salesman. Fee and Bobby had a son, Ross, who was Fee's pride and joy. Fee played the harmonica well, and was a great story teller, often drawing out much laughter by retelling the ending - several times! In 1966 there was a small recession, and Fee sold the shop, after which he and Bobby went on holiday to Japan for three months, leaving Ross behind! Fee then took a job in the elctrical department of Farmers. After only ten years of marriage, Fee died in a car accident driving his beloved red Fiat. He was driving the family to Kaitaia, when they were his by a avan driven by an unlicensed driver. Ross suffered two broken legs, but Bobby escaped serious injury. [Paul SCOTT]
