Albert owned his own garage and repair premises. He stayed on working in Walmer during World War II, and the family continued living there together. During the war, the family had a corrugated iron Anderson's shelter in the back yard. On one occasion early in the war, bombs landed by the railway arch down the road. as a result, all the windows were broken, and the plaster ceilings all came down. Ration books were issued for the duration of the war. Albert kept chickens and grew vegetables; being good friends with the baker also helped. Masses of army trucks and troops assembled in Deal before D-day. Many houses were commandeered as billets - not a problem, as many people had left. The family remembers the Welsh Fusiliers with their white goat mascot. At the end of the war, the family went to Dover to see Winston Churchill. Albert died a month short of their diamond wedding anniversary.
He was baptized, [Mary GUY] and sang in the church choir. [Clipping]
