Misc. Notes
Everyone loved Gert. She was friendly, practical and helpful. Before Granny BENNETT died, she worked in the Napier Council Chambers. When her mother died, she went to live with Ame at Awatoto. She was involved with the Women's Institute, and spent many evenings playing 500. She made beautiful fanciwork, and won many local prizes. She owned and ran the general store in Awatoto. After her marriage to Reg COOMBS, she moved to Taradale, where they lived in a house which they built close to Granny BENNETT's original house. Reg was an engineer, but he had retired when Gert met him. Gert and Reg had no children. [Thelma SCOTT]
