Misc. Notes
Woked in London with sister Francis in a big house opposite Hyde Park gates. In 1886 arrived in Napier from England with Francis, then married Albert BENNETT. Lived at The Nook, Springfield Rd with small children; later at Church Rd, Taradale. Husband worked away. A baby died while they lived at The Nook. Jane Bennett was always carrying something in her hand, tidying things up. She walked with a limp. At the Church Rd property there was a large mulberry tree with many silk-worms. [TS] Jane was a wonderful, patient, gentle soul. She lived a hard life. She was beautiful. She probably developed her lameness. She took in school teachers as boarders. When you entered the front door of her house, there was a room on each side of the hall, and then a step down into the dining room. Cause of death: Morbus Cordis/Albuminuria/Uraemia/Coma. Headstone puts date of death as 26 May 1926. 'She always seemed to me one of God's best and humblest, most self-effacing of His servants. Unselfish too to a degree, and I don't think I ever heard her say an unkind word of anyone.' [Letter from Alfred P. Clarke.]
