Extract from Bude Haven – Links with the Past by Capt John E. Acland (1914): 'The tide flowed as far as the present Vicarage, then the Efford (or Ebbingford) Manor House in which there was a chapel dedicated to St Leonard. At Nanny Moore's bridge there stood a mill worked by the run of the tide, the position of the wheel being still discernable. On the SE corner of the house about 4 feet from the ground there is a stone boldly carved with initials 'A.I.A. 1589' and a shield bearing three battle axes. It is stated that the bridge was built by Mrs Dennis, sister of Lady Arundel, whose husband owned the Manor and lived there at that date. The coat of arms was that of Dennis and the initials stood for Anne and John Arundel.' Nan SYMONS writes: As far as I know, Nanny Moore's bridge is still there. Foundry Cottage had gone to make way for a motorway. It was near the Bray Institute for the Blind, and was blocking the end of the road.
