In Malen and Alice's first year at the Bay, the eldest son, Godfrey died, aged twenty-three years, and another son, David Godfrey was born, but died at four years of age of convulsions. With a baby sister who later died of the same complaint, they were buried in the Tabernacle churchyard. Each baby as it was born, was called “ween”, perhaps an old Suffolk word.
