Malen and his wife continued to live in the cottage on Beach Road (Maud St). Here, it is said, Mrs Rumbelow had a fine grape-vine growing. The Hay girls of 'Mount Breckan', when out driving with Reginald Lindsay of 'Edzell House' in the 1880s would often stop to taste the delicious fruit. Mrs Rumbelow however, was a woman of high morals, and as a sign of her disapproval of alcohol, she later had the grape-vine pulled out. Mrs Rumbelow died just one year after her husband, aged seventy-eight.
