In 1867 the widowed Sophia married Alexander BACCHUS. Mr BACCHUS had lost his wife Lucy six years before when she had fallen from their dray and been killed as the wheels passed over her, leaving a baby son William Henry. The couple set up house with their seven children and two more were born: Alexander and Harriet BACCHUS.

Sophia BACCHUS died in 1895 aged fifty-seven of a stomach cancer. Her husband died some years later. The old BACCHUS home on a bank of the Inman River was eventually purchased by the Victor Harbor Golf Club. [Settlers around the Bay: Laube]
