Misc. Notes
Lucy was a techer at Taradale School and later head mistree at the Napier Primary School adjacent to Clive Square. She married Maurice HALLIWELL, and the couple had four daughters. The girls were largely educated by correspondence. Lucy was unable to sew, so sister Ethel made the girls' clothes. After Maurice's death Lucy stayed on at the farm until it was sold. She then lived briefly with Flo and Ethel before buying her own house in Taradale. Sometimes she would arrive with her suitcase at Will and Grace's unannounced and expect to be put up for a few days. One year she gave Will one of Maurice's old ties for a birthday present. At Christmas, she would save all her cards and use them again the following year! She married a widower neighbour, but the marriage only lasted six months before she gave him his marching orders. In the 1930s Lucy took ill and was unconscious for several days. This left her with a mild form of epilepsy. She died in Wellington at age 82. Lucy, Ethel and Flo were a very friendly lot and given to a little chuckle after each snippet of conversation. They were also great on air kissing!
